To undertake engineering services design and consultancy work on behalf of Xburo UK Limited under the direction of the line manager or project leader.
To undertake calculations, production of drawings, specifications and reports, site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison, liaison with members of design/construction teams, project management, costing and any other relevant duty required to comply with the project brief.
Primary Responsibilities
Ensuring an understanding of project briefs.
Manage all aspects of work assigned from start to finish and ensure that all work is carried out within the set time and budgetary requirements.
Prepare and manage engineering projects to include: specification, design, life cycle cost, equipment selection, planned maintenance programmes, dilapidations, acquisitions and the preparation of and review of tender documentation.
Design and specification of all Mechanical Building Services systems – heating, cooling, ventilation, controls, etc.
Carry out the production of detailed calculations using industry standard digital tools inc. Excel, IES, Hevacomp, in-house developed tools, etc.
Preparing technical specifications using NBS.
Work in partnership with project teams to add value to building services projects where appropriate.
Preparing drawings for drafting by the BIM team, a working understanding / use of Autodesk (& Revit).
Representing Xburo UK Limited at meetings with clients and contractors.
Site surveys, inspections, and monitor site works. Conduct surveys to gather field data e.g. asset collection.
Report & technical note writing. Prepare and interpret engineering reports, drawings, layouts and other (visual) aids.
Maintaining complete records and archives to company standards.
Adherence to all quality, environmental & governance processes.
Managing own workload, updating forward plan of workload regularly & working to time allocations.
Managing elements of project delivery and an understanding of budget costings.
Reviewing progress, inc. reporting any anomalies and changes of scope to the line manager.
Help & assist with technical development of junior staff
Requirements
Requirements Knowledge of applicable laws and building codes, safety legislation and approved code of practice e.g. L8.
Degree qualified, or equivalent qualification, in Building Services Engineering or related subjects.
Chartered Engineer (or working towards CEng) with CIBSE / IMechE.
Good level of computer literacy in a range of digital tools inc.; IES thermal modelling package, Hevacomp, NBS and Microsoft packages.
Experience working in a design consultancy – some experience of working within a contractor environment is additionally welcome.
Have a good knowledge of appropriate technical standards.
Able to take charge of personal project deliverables, make decisions on developing the discipline design elements, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.
Good report writing skills, experience of making presentations to and attending meetings with client is essential.
